FRENCH VERBS CHRISTMAS DOMINOES 1

CHRISTMAS DOMINOES FRENCH VERBS! 99 high-frequency French verbs Christmas differentiated dominoes - 3 games, 3 challenges - great for keeping your students joyful at Christmas! The lessons in the run-up to Christmas are a great opportunity to revisit language learnt earlier on in the school year - Christmas-themed resources really do seem to be a great motivator! My students love to work independently, and just get on with things - I have several folders of learning resources that they can select in free-choice time, and the dominoes are a big favourite! The 99 French verbs and their English equivalent are in the infinitive form. There are 3 differentiated games, each with a different level of challenge: Challenge One the verbs are in alphabetical order, French to English Challenge Two the verbs are in random order, French to English Challenge Three the verbs are in random order, English to French My students really like to have a reference sheet too, so I’ve included one here - we use it as a year-round resource, not just at Christmas! It’s definitely worth the effort to laminate the dominoes - they’re far more user-friendly, and they last for many Christmas lessons! FULLY-REVISED RESOURCE COMING SOON IN 2024! SPANISH TELLING TIME GAMES CARDS & RECALL CHALLENGES really do help to create a lively language learning environment. My younger students enjoy working independently, and with the cards and recall workbook, they can really get to grips with telling time in SPANISH. The cards, card templates and accompanying workbook challenges have a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. Encourage students to reflect on their progress, and note targets for improvement using the NOTES AND NEXT STEPS template - taking responsbility for learning and thinking about progress is a great habit to get into. This set includes a range of games and activities featuring the clock times quarter to and quarter past the hour. Students can play alone, in pairs or in small-groups. There are lots of whole-group games to play too. T The accompanying Reference, Recall & Write workbook includes a SPANISH to English time phrase and clock face reference workbook, which my students always find useful as a year-round reference resource. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Ideal for young and beginner Spanish learners. I like to give my language learners comprehensive core vocabulary books and reference resources. They enable them to work more independently, both in class and at home. This Spanish Telling the Time Reference Book has 14 pages, and features every analogue clock time in Spanish. There’s a My Notes page too - I encourage students to make notes on their progress, and think about how they are progressing. We also use this to inform and guide whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really popular and effective activity too. I like to give visual vocabulary guides to my young beginner language learners, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image. It’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. Students file the guides in their Spanish vocabulary folders with other vocabulary guides, which gives them an accessible and useful Spanish vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. For young and / or beginner Spanish learners, I focus initially on a single time set, because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to Spanish prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with o’clock, I then move on to additional time sets. Have a browse in my store for more Spanish vocabulary guides, and a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning materials, with Spanish resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

FRENCH ER VERBS PERFECT TENSE

(1)
GCSE FRENCH KS4 FRENCH KS3 FRENCH PERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE featuring 25 high-frequency French -ER verbs My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges with complete answer key. The workbook focuses on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, but I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, language learners do often try to conflate what they know about grammar in their first language with the language they are learning, and with students whose first language is English, I frequently see students confusing the use of the auxiliaries avoir and être for example. Students do need to to have a good grasp of the auxiliary verbs in the present tense to ensure that they can form the perfect tense accurately. In terms of the past participle, students begin to be able to predict it accurately, the more they see it, and construct it. I also refer frequently the differences in usage between English and French in the perfect tense, which are quite significant. The resource is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt Notes and Next Steps template which students visit regularly - it really does encourage them to think about where they are now, how confident they feel, and what they might need to work on a little more to be absolutely sure of their conjugation skills answer key Have a browse in my store for more French grammar activities, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning resources, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies too! GERMAN REFLEXIVE VERBS PRESENT TENSE

(1)
GCSE GERMAN KS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN REFLEXIVE VERBS PRESENT TENSE 25 high-frequency German reflexive verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for KS3 German KS4 German students who are beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in German. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, with the German present tense, I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the singular pronouns, including the pronoun man form being identical, pointing out also that man is commonly used in German, often also meaning we, unlike the pronoun one in English. Students do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation, and I frequently see attempts such as ich bin mich waschen for I am getting washed or similarly***ich mache / tue mich erinnern*** for I do remember. The workbook comprises the following: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes & Next Steps template, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. answer key Try this free sampler: GERMAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE SAMPLER https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-conjugation-practice-example-12154187 This resource consists of non-editable files in a zipped format. The 10-page workbook has this structure: * Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French * Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: CHALLENGE 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation CHALLENGE 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Written Recall Challenge Two again, students write the verbs in English from a German prompt, but the German verbs are now in random, rather than alphabetical order. Language learners often learn or are familiar with new vocabulary in a particular order, so it increases the recall challenge by changing that order. Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge requires students to write the corresponding German verb from an English prompt. The English verbs are also in random order. This challenge really helps with vocabulary recall, which is quite challenging when vocabulary does not appear in the context of a sentence. It's really useful for spelling in German too. These Primary Spanish animals display posters/flashcards create a fabulous Spanish look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote Spanish as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of Spanish, both primary and secondary. They introduce learners to a range of animals in Spanish from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with how Spanish words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. My younger Spanish students really love the animals posters, and like to compare the Spanish and English words. I’ve found that they also help very young children develop their growing understanding of the animal kingdom. We don’t necessarily learn all the animals, but we do use them for pronunciation and speaking practice, and for memory games too. They really give the classroom a great Spanish ambiance too. Students definitely notice the different words for a/an, and ask why some animals are un, and others are una. I’ve used this as a useful prompt to introduce the concept of gender. The posters work just as well as flashcards, which are great for introducing and practicing language in general (students don’t have to learn them all!), and for playing games to engage students with Spanish. There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which again is a great opportunity to begin to compare Spanish to English. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as orso and lobo. The animals are: a bear : a bee : a bird : a butterfly : a cat : a dog : a fish : : a fox : a frog : a horse : a kangaroo : a monkey : a mouse : an ow : a parrot : a rabbit : a spider : a squirrel a turtle / tortoise : a wolf There are two sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters, with two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or animal footprint, so 40 posters in total. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in excellent condition for years. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

GERMAN VERBS DOMINOES #2

My students love to play these dominoes games and find them a lively and interactive alternative to more traditional vocabulary and grammar ‘drilling’ activities. They enjoy being able to work and learn independently, and I give them regular chances during the school year to play. The focus is on 99 high-frequency GERMAN verbs in the infinitive form. There are 3 games, each with a differentiated level of challenge. CHILLOUT CHALLENGE features the verbs in alphabetical order, GERMAN to English CHAMPION CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, GERMAN to English SUPERCHARGED CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, ENGLISH to GERMAN - your students will really have to know their GERMAN verbs to complete this sequence in record time! I’ve included reference sheets of all verbs in both alphabetical and topsy-turvy order for students to use as a learning support resource. I’ve classed the game as suitable for ages 11-18, because it really does depend on when your students begin GERMAN - the games work well with any appropriate year group, depending on their starting point. There’s a bit of prep - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games because they last for years, so laminating is definitely worth the time and effort. The resource is non-editable. GERMAN TELLING TIME I HAVE, WHO HAS GAMES #1

(1)
KS3 GERMAN KS4 TELLING TIME O’CLOCK, HALF PAST, QUARTER TO AND QUARTER PAST THE HOUR - TWO GAMES, TWO DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGES! I HAVE, WHO HAS? is a lively & communicative whole-group language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell the time in GERMAN. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. Half past the hour can be really tricky for beginner German learners, and these kinds of games really help to embed it. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the correct order, starting with the first card, Es ist ein Uhr/Es ist acht Uhr, and ending with the last card Es ist viertel vor zwölf / Es ist viertel nach zwölf. Students can either create a human chain timeline, holding the cards themselves, or a card timeline, on the floor, a longish table or other flat surface. There are two games and two challenges: CHALLENGE 1 with the clock times in numerical order, and the Q & A Ich habe… Hast du…? CHALLENGE 2 with the clock times in topsy-turvy order, and the Q & A Hast du… Ja, ich habe… . This really encourages students to focus on their GERMAN clock times! Students can identify the particular challenge by the colour of the card - the font is also different, so printing is B&W is absolutely fine too. Play either as a whole-group game, or as a team game - which team can complete the challenge first? You can either play the challenges consecutively, or as a team game, swapping the challenges so that each team has a chance to play both challenges. This set features analogue clock times, 1-12, including midday and midnight, with o’clock, half past, a quarter to and a quarter past the hour. There are four cards with eight clock faces per page, which I’ve found to be the ideal size for students learning to tell the time, and with the multi-skill practice the games facilitate. The resource itself consists of a single, non-editable file. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - this resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, shard or rewritten in any way, in any format. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß BEIM SPIELEN!
